Any guess how old are these Chinese Olympians?
Maybe you are thinking they are 12 or 14. Aren't you?

How about this Americans? 17, 18 or 19 y/old?

They both compete on the same competition
Here is the proof!

In 2008 Beijing Olympics, there is a controversy among Chinese gymnasts who look like young or child-like. By rule, gymnasts must be 16 years old to compete in Olympics, given the documents to prove their age. But there are a lot of allegations on this champion team- that their gymnasts are under age eligibility.
First of all, what is the difference between an underage and a 16 year old (or older) gymnast?
Well, with younger yet world class gymnast is an advantage because smaller bodies can result to bigger tricks in the air. While if maturing, there goes the development of hips and breasts that can hinder or complicates flips and tricks.

Deng Linlin, member of the gymnastic team of China, was found out missing a baby tooth which is something not normal for a 16-year-old “girl”.
The New York Times reported that “the Chinese provided documentation about the gymnasts’ birth dates, and the International Olympic Committee said at the close of the Games that it was satisfied everything was legal. The International Gymnastics Federation concluded its own investigation a month after the Olympics ended, and came to the same conclusion supporting the Chinese.”

ARE THE DOCUMENTS THE MOST CREDIBLE ANSWER TO THIS CONTROVERSY?
With regards to a Chinese gymnast who has missing a baby tooth, that’s not normal for a supposedly 16 age human but it is maybe normal for a younger than 16. As I read upon how it should be done, I strongly agree to what medical anthropologists or forensic dentist could do with this matter. They can be randomly check age on the Olympics or the week before that. Or maybe get their recent dental X-rays.

For you, which is the best?

To make it simpler, let us look at the Philippine inter- school athletic competitions and  just how some school coaches forged birth certificates of athletes for their eligibility. Whether it is underage or overage, it is still cheating.

In this aspect, the Davids win against the Goliaths.
